My ex ugly cried when I called off our engagement – people say I ‘dodged a bullet’ and I was his ‘cash reserves’

A FED-UP woman has shared that her ex ugly cried after she called off their engagement.

Although she felt slightly guilty about ending her relationship with “brutal honesty,” people say she dodged a bullet.

Redditor Salt_Builder5179 shared the wedding fail in a viral post.

She explained that their relationship had begun as “friends with benefits” and had grown from there.

Three years into the relationship, she began having regrets about being with him.

“I’m conflicted because he made me promise that I will never leave him after his business partner cut him off, only months before going on their own and becoming very successful,” she said.

Though she gave in to the promise, she revealed that she did, in fact, want to leave him because of his money problems.

After another year and a half together, she explained she’d witnessed him start and fail at his enterprises, all of which were his fault.

“He’s attempted to start different businesses only to get fired, ghosted, or cut off by his partners,” she said.

Though she understands his grief as someone who went back to college to improve her own career prospects, she doesn’t believe they are compatible.

“He says he will never go back to school and believes that only good contacts build opportunities. I thought this could be workable, but it’s gotten more challenging,” she said.

When he ended up proposing, she was so taken aback by the gesture that she said yes.

“I said yes because I got carried away in the moment and because I wouldn’t dream of embarrassing him,” she said.

The engagement, however, came with non-cents-ical demands.

“He’s been asking for my financial information. I understand any couple who wants to get married needs to put things on the table, but since I wasn’t expecting to get engaged, I wasn’t planning on making any disclosures,” she said.

“I’m not ready to disclose my monthly revenue down to a T or give him details about my sideline that brings passive income.

He ugly cried immediately after learning that this is my final decision. I don’t know how to describe it, but I felt a mix of pain, embarrassment, and anger.

“I’m also concerned that he’s been insistent on knowing exactly how I run my business, wants to know my clients, and wants to know who my service suppliers are.

“I know this sounds awful, but no, I can’t rule out giving this to someone who might screw me over.”

She added that his demands are just one reason she lost interest.

“His insistent behavior has been extremely stressful and is one of the main reasons why I don’t want to get married. My other reason is that he’s become very triggered to the point that he rants for long periods whenever someone he knows achieves something,” she said.

As expected, he didn’t take the news well.

“His reaction was terribly painful. He ugly cried immediately after learning that this is my final decision. I don’t know how to describe it, but I felt a mix of pain, embarrassment, and anger,” she said.

“He also said I’m his last chance at finding a stable life, and somehow, it made me feel like, in his eyes, dating me is an achievement. This is significantly difficult for me to ignore. I also returned the ring and all of his belongings.”

People didn’t think she had anything to lose sleep over.

“You dodged a bullet with that one. There’s a reason you’re successful. You have good instincts and are intelligent,” said one commenter.

“It sounds like he wanted to ride your coattails. Maybe take over your business. This was not about love but about him trying to find a way to get that [elusive] success through you.”

“I missed the part where he has redeeming qualities. Run,” said another.

“Not the a**hole. You [were] his cash reserves,” said a third.
