New Iberia man arrested after allegedly fleeing LDWF drug bust
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A New Iberia man was arrested in Iberia Parish on Tuesday and accused of multiple drug offenses after he fled from Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents on April 30, authorities said.
Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections officers arrested Allen J. Toucheck Sr., 55, in Loreauville and booked him into the Iberia Parish Jail Tuesday. Officials said there was also an outstanding arrest warrant for Toucheck from 2023 for failing to report.
Authorities said LDWF agents were on patrol April 30 near the Bayou Benoit boat launch in St. Martin Parish when they came into contact with Toucheck in the process of loading his vessel onto his trailer around 10 p.m.
Agents said they found Toucheck in possession of illegal drugs and a loaded .38 caliber revolver, whereupon Toucheck locked himself in his truck. Agents attempted to remove Toucheck from his vehicle by breaking the driver’s door window, but the suspect drove away at a high rate of speed with his empty boat trailer in tow leaving his boat in the water, authorities said.
Agents said Toucheck was in possession of suspected methamphetamine, a vial of suspected heroin, suspected marijuana, a working digital scale with methamphetamine residue on it, a syringe and multiple fake identification cards.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Toucheck for second-offense possession of a firearm in the presence of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in the presence of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer, flight from an officer and possession of heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana with intent to distribute.
Second offense of possession of a firearm in the presence of methamphetamine brings up to a $500 fine and six years in jail. Possession of a firearm in the presence of heroin, flight from an officer and resisting an officer carries up to a $500 fine and six months in jail for each offense. Possession of drug paraphernalia carries up to a $300 fine and 15 days in jail.
Possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin with intent to distribute brings up to a $50,000 fine and 10 years in jail for each offense.
