SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board announced that he will resign from his post at the end of June.

Ronnie Johns informed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry on April 4 that he would step away from his position on June 30.

As appointed by former Governor John Bel Edwards on July 21, 2021, Johns oversaw legacy riverboat licenses, becoming "first-class land-based properties, with another three currently under construction."

Johns also played a pivotal role in establishing rules to govern retail sports betting in Louisiana, including a measure banning prop betting on collegiate sports.

In a statement, Johns said, "There comes a time in everyone's life when they should step back and make their family the number one priority. I have arrived at that point, and my wife, daughter and son-in-law, and five grandchildren will be my focus in life. My wife and I plan to travel, chase our grandkids from ballpark to ballpark, school events, and wherever life's journey takes them. We also plan on doing some charity work in Lafayette, where we now reside."
