WATCH KKR Fan’s Emotional Confession For Gautam Gambhir, Says ‘Please Do Not Leave Us Anymore’

Gautam Gambhir played for Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011 to 2017, winning the IPL title twice. He returned to his home once again in 2024, but this time as a mentor.

New Delhi: The return of Gautam Gambhir has changed the fortunes of Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The two-time champions are currently sitting at the top of the points table with eight wins in 11 matches and a net run-rate of +1.453. Not only the former skipper bring in a sense of belief in the team but his tactical changes also worked well so far. It was under Gambhir, KKR won the IPL twice in 2012 and 2014.

The former India opener is an emotion for the KKR fans. Recently, a die-hard supporter literally cried while speaking to Gambhir during a fans’ meet and greet, the video of which went viral on social media. Wearing a KKR scarf, the middle-aged man urged Gambhir not to leave KKR again.

“Sir, I am one of your biggest fans,” he started. “Just want to say, do not leave us anymore. We have faced numerous problems (indicating KKR’s performances after Gambhir left in 2017) without you. There is a Bengali song which says, ‘tomake hrid majhare rakhibo, chere debo na. Chere dile sonar gour ar je fire pabo na’. We place you in our hearts, please do not leave us anymore. Do not give problems to us sir (with folded hands).

One of the masterstrokes by Gambhir brought in at KKR was promoting Sunil Narine as an opener. Also, bringing in Phil Salt as Jason Roy’s replacement worked wonders for the Purple and Gold. The Narine-Salt duo’s consistency at the top of the order also took the pressure off from the middle order.

In fact, Narine also scored his maiden T20 century in IPL 2024, marking a rare milestone in his career. Moreover, Gambhir’s trust in uncapped Indian players also proved crucial for KKR. While Angkrish Raghuvanshi cemented his place at no.3 in the batting order, Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora too delivered when mattered in the bowling department.

As things stand, KKR have three matches left in the group stage and face Mumbai Indians (May 11), Gujarat Titans (May 13) and Rajasthan Royals (May 19). Staying in top two will be on priority for KKR as that would give them two chances during the playoffs. They need atleast two wins out of the remaining games to stay in top two.
