Britain’s cheapest Mr Whippy is on sale for tiny fee including a flake until end of May

BRITAIN’S cheapest Mr Whippy is on sale for 50p — and that’s with a flake.

Seaside cafe boss Michelle Andrew cut the price of her ‘99’ — which fluctuates between £1.99 to £4.10 across the UK — after finding an old sign.

Michelle, 56, was inspired by the “Whippy Ice Cream 50p” billboard she discovered during renovations at The Watermark Cafe in Scarborough, North Yorks.

Michelle, who plans to sell the cheaper Mr Whippy all May, said: “It’s doing a lot of business, as you’d expect.

“It’s just nice to be able to do our bit for customers.

“We’re going to get queues galore this weekend because the weather is going to be brilliant. We expect Scarborough to be heaving.

“It’ll be hectic but it’s just nice to be able to do our bit for customers.

“We’re going to get queues galore.”

Day-tripping sisters Margaret and Pat Pierrepont were among those on the promenade in the North Yorkshire resort.

Margaret, 55, said: “The price of an ice cream with flake has been extortionate for a long time now.

“It’s nice to see that it’s being sold for 50p – especially at a time when people are really feeling the pinch.

“They’ll be able to come down, enjoy the weather and get an ice cream without it breaking the bank.”
