Arafat Mohajer, the Taliban’s head of information and culture in Nangarhar, claimed that during protests along the Torkham-Jalalabad route, one Taliban member and several people were killed.

According to several residents and Taliban officials in Nangarhar province, protests began after the Taliban told inhabitants to leave their homes and area, stating that the lands belong to the government.

However, protesters in the area claim to have legal documents.

Taliban officials claim that these properties are government-owned and were seized by people years ago. However, local residents say the properties are owned by nomads who have legal documents.

Meanwhile, some protesters have stated that the Taliban have ordered the demolition of their personal homes.

According to the reports from native residents, at least three people, including a woman, were killed and four others were injured due to direct Taliban gunfire at the protesters. The head of information and culture claimed that after the group tried to reclaim government lands from people, chaos ensued, and the violence resulted in the death of a member of their group.

This Taliban official confirmed that “several of the land grabbers were also killed.” However, he did not explain the exact number of casualties during the protests.

Previously, the death toll was reported to be three.

The Taliban have killed these protesters while, last Friday and Saturday, they also shot dead at least two residents of the districts of Dara-e-Im and Argo in Badakhshan province.

This led to unprecedented protests against the Taliban in Badakhshan. This occurs as, since the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan, people are less likely to demonstrate for their rights. In the past nearly three years in Afghanistan, Taliban fighters have mostly shot at protesters.
