Cheapest places in the UK to buy a used motor revealed – as area offers cars over £2,000 less than national average
THE most affordable place to buy a used car across England and Wales last month have been revealed – with the top spot offering motors over £2,000 less than the national average.
New data collected by experts at Motors has revealed 10 regions with the lowest average car price in April, and London, perhaps unsurprisingly, is the most expensive.
It’s better news for potential car-buyers in Wales though, which is by-far the cheapest location listed.
In fact, research found that the average price of a set of wheels in Wales was £14,519 – which is £2,306 below the national average.
This comes as Wales experienced the biggest year-on-year drop in car values – some 12% down at £16,469.
The Midlands were just behind, with average used car prices recorded at a bargain £15,932.
That’s followed by north west England with an average of £16,016.

But at the other end of the scale was London, where prices were £3,541 above the national average at £20,366.
London was followed by East Anglia at £18,073 and south central England at £17,433.
Motors’ Market View also looked at the regional price variations of popular used models, including the Audi A3, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf.
It found that while Wales might have the cheapest cars overall available, it was the most expensive place to buy an Audi A3 at £29,833 and the cheapest for Ford Fiestas at £15,929.
What’s more, while London was the most expensive place to buy used cars in general, it was the cheapest location if you if you’re looking for a VW Golf – with the iconic model coming in at £22,025 with the most expensive being in North East England at £25,411.
Lucy Tugby, marketing director of Motors, said: “Our analysis shows just how important a factor geographical location is to used car prices and why dealers need to keep tabs on regional as well as national prices when sourcing and pricing used cars.
“Significantly all 10 regions saw YoY price drops in April, ranging from 2% to 12%, while most saw MoM improvements of up to 4%.
“This further illustrates how the monthly price drops we have tracked since December halted in April with prices across the UK increasing by 1%.”
Elsewhere, new data has revealed that thousands of drivers are being charged up to £250 to park outside their own homes under controversial rules.
And meanwhile, drivers have been urged to pick up a “dirt cheap” Toyota that’s been dubbed the “best used car” on the market.
