The Telegraph’s Matt Law has suggested that rumoured Tottenham target Conor Gallagher may stay put at Stamford Bridge this summer even if Chelsea do not offer him a new contract.

It has been widely reported that Gallagher has been one of Tottenham’s top targets since last summer, with Fabrizio Romano recently revealing that Ange Postecoglou had identified the 24-year-old as a priority target as soon as he walked through the door at Hotspur Way (GiveMeSport).

This summer seems like the ideal opportunity for Spurs to secure the England international, who has just one year left on his contract with Chelsea.

It has been claimed by multiple outlets that the Blues do not have any choice but to put the midfielder up for sale due to their PSR issues (The Times).

Just a couple of days ago, transfer expert Graeme Bailey suggested that the Lilywhites are well-placed to beat Newcastle to the midfielder since the player is not keen on the idea of moving to the North East (The Spurs News).

Conor Gallagher could still stay put at Chelsea

However, Law believes that there is still a chance that Gallagher might refuse to leave his boyhood club and decide to run down his contract.

The journalist told London is Blue podcast: “I wouldn’t rule out a scenario… of them not agreeing a contract and Conor staying. And that doesn’t mean Conor necessarily has to run down his contract and leave for free. I mean, it still opens the door to more negotiations at some point.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be extremely surprised if Gallagher is still at Chelsea by the start of next season. In fact, he will likely be sold before the end of June which is the deadline date for the PSR calculations. We will thus know quite early in the summer if Tottenham are successful in their pursuit of the England international.
