‘It makes a huge difference’ cry iPhone owners over lifesaving battery hack that gives ‘several more hours’ of juice

IPHONE owners have hailed a battery-saving hack that kicks in automatically and grants them “several hours more” of juice.

It bolsters Apple’s built-in Low Power Mode, which iPhone owners are prompted to turn on when their device’s battery reaches 20%.

If your iPhone regularly runs out of battery before the day is done, Low Power Mode is one way to make it last longer.

But kicking in at 20% is too late for some.

And few realise they can actually customise the battery percentage that triggers the setting.

Using Apple’s Shortcuts app, iPhone owners can make Low Power Mode automatically turn on when your battery reaches a custom level.

“I’ve set an automation for mine to activate at 40%,” one savvy iPhone owner wrote in a post on Reddit.

“It also doubles with a reminder for me to charge my phone. I feel like 20% is a little too low.”

iPhone owners can, alternatively, enable Low Power Mode manually at any time by going to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.

How to customise Low Power Mode trigger

First, you'll want to open the Shortcuts app.

If you can’t find the app, search for it in the search bar on your home screen.

Once you’re inside the app, tap the Automation tab at the bottom of the screen.

Then you want to click the button in the top-right corner.

Next, scroll down and select Battery Level from the options.

Check Falls Below 50% and then drag the slider to adjust the percentage level for when Low Power Mode should be activated.

Toggle off the switch next to Ask Before Running to ensure the automation runs in the background, then tap Next.

After that, search for Set Low Power Mode and select the card from the results, then tap Next.

Lastly, tap Done in the top-right of the screen.

Your Set Low Power Mode personal automation should now automatically trigger whenever your ‌iPhone‌ reaches the percentage you selected.

I use Low Power Mode anytime I leave my house.

Low Power Mode freezes some background activities and reduces your iPhone performance in some ways.

For example, mail must be fetched manually, background app refresh is disabled, and motion and brightness are reduced.

“I use Low Power Mode anytime I leave my house,” a second iPhone owner said in another Reddit post. “Once I’m in my home I turn it back off.”

While a third person added: “Since I always keep my battery charge between 20-90%, I do not really use it often.

“But [it] definitely gives several hours more if you enable it so that’s a good option when travelling.”
