‘I jetted off for an 11-HOUR sun kissed holiday in Barcelona – it cost less than a day out in London’, says savvy Brit

A SAVVY student who jetted off for an 11-hour sun kissed getaway in Barcelona revealed it cost her less money than a day in London.

Jade Taylor decided to swap the soggy streets of Manchester for beautiful Catalonia beaches.

The 21-year-old caught a flight from East Midlands airport at 5.45am on May 7 and landed in the bustling Spanish city at 8.55am.

Flying with RyanAir, the flights cost her £40 in total.

Jade then spent 11 hours exploring the city, touring all the places she wanted to go on her trip.

She visited iconic locations including the Cathedral of Barcelona and the Casa Batlló.

She even had the chance to kick back at the beach and basque in the sun with a cocktail in hand.

Jade said that the train ticket prices to London soaring to an eye-watering £100 or more encouraged her to go abroad.

After spending the day enjoying the glorious weather Jade hopped on an 8pm flight back to East Midlands airport.

Jade said: “It was definitely cheaper than a day out in the UK.
“A train ticket to London can be over £100.

“This one was my first day trip out of the UK and I definitely will be doing another one, especially when it’s nicer weather abroad.

“I spent the day exploring around Barcelona, had some cocktails on the beach, did some shopping and got some lunch.

“I managed to see all the main things in Barcelona I wanted to see.

“I absolutely loved it.”

It comes as a savvy couple swapped a wet weekend in London for a Canaries break — costing £100 less.

Bobbi Hadgraft, 23, and her fiancé Will Huyton, 21, had been planning a visit to the capital.

But they found it would cost at least twice as much as a Lanzarote trip.

Will, a journalist from Hull, said their flights were £40 each return and accommodation £50.

Taking the train to London would have been £80 each return.

Will said: “When we added up the cost of going to Winter Wonderland, the travel and the hotel, it was £100 cheaper to go to Lanzarote.

“And it was 20C warmer.”

Jade's trip

  • £40 RyanAir Flight from East Midlands airport at 5:45am
  • Land in Barcelona at 8:55am
  • Spent 11 hours exploring the city
  • 8pm flight back to East Midlands airport

And in May we told how staycations became big business when the Covid-19 pandemic stopped most of us jetting off.

And now, holidaymakers are claiming that the UK has its very own answer to iconic party island, Ibiza

You’ll have to travel down to the southwestern tip of the British isles to get a slice of Spain, though.

Brits are dubbing Cornwall as “the Ibiza of the UK”.
