And he impressed with two goals in 18 appearances as Millwall avoided relegation to League One.

But despite his upturn in form, Tanganga does not have a future at Tottenham.

The versatile centre-back failed to make a single appearance under Ange Postecoglou in the first half of the season.

And with Radu Dragusin arriving at the start of the year, competition is fiercer than ever just for a spot in Spurs’ senior squad.

However, Tanganga could now be set to rejoin Millwall on a permanent deal after the Championship outfit had a bid accepted by Tottenham.

Fan favourite Neil Harris is keen to build on his impressive run of results after returning to the Den as Joe Edwards’ replacement in February.

And the Mirror claims he sees Tanganga as a fundamental part of his plan to challenge for next term’s playoffs.

Millwall have moved quickly as Tanganga is out of contract this summer, but Spurs retain the option to extend it by one more year.

There is also interest in the ace from abroad.

Yet Harris is hopeful of persuading Tanganga to stay in south-east London, with the centre-back set to weigh up his options.

He said last week: “Japhet has started every game for me, so he is obviously going fantastically well.

“You have to be very careful and respectful when you talk about loan players who are contracted to other football clubs. Ultimately Japh is contracted to Spurs and they have a relationship and decisions they have got to make, between themselves, as to where Japhet’s future lies.

“Then you have got Japhet’s thought process, what does he want to do? He is a young man who has had a loan period, he has been abroad in Germany. Where does he see his future lying?

“Then, for us as well, it is about the balance of the squad. Japh has done extremely well. I’m a firm believer when players do well on loan that there is hope you work with them again in the future.”
