The Penguins won big in the series-deciding game that was super tight for the first six games.

Fifteen years ago today, the Penguins went into the Verizon Center for a series-deciding game with the Capitals and ran out of the building with an easy win.

It was 2009 and the Penguins had steamrolled their way through the Flyers in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It was Penguins vs. Capitals and Crosby vs. Ovechkin in a battle of young guns and two offensively powered teams.

The first six games of the series were nothing short of heartburn inducing from dueling hat tricks to overtime games and everything in between.

It was six games of madness and everyone was ready for a chaotic Game 7.

The game opened up with just that — chaos. An early Alexander Ovechkin breakaway and you’re thinking “Oh, here we go, great” but then Marc-Andre Fleury rises to the occasion and makes the big save.

Later on in the first frame, the Penguins would score two goals just eight seconds apart.

At the start of the second period, the Pens kept pouring it on with another two quick goals.

Another goal and it was 5-0 and things were just about wrapped up.

With that, the Penguins were onto the Eastern Conference Final with their best of the season yet to come.
