Pennsylvania man dies in Harford County motorcycle crash, police say

A man died Sunday night after the motorcycle he was driving went off a roadway and crashed into a telephone pole, Maryland State Police say.

Troopers from the state police’s Bel Air barracks responded to the 2600 block of Whiteford Road in Harford County just after 10:30 p.m. for the report of a single-vehicle crash.

Police say a preliminary investigation discovered that a Honda motorcycle was traveling north on Whiteford Road when, for reasons that are still being investigated, the vehicle went off the roadway and hit a telephone pole.

The operator of the motorcycle was identified as 50-year-old Jason Birley of Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Harford County Emergency Medical Service personnel.

Following the incident, Whiteford Road was closed for approximately two and a half hours, police say
