Celtic target Etienne Vaessen is hoping that he might have played his last home game for his RKC Waalwijk as he nears the end of his contract.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been at the club since 2016 and has notched up more than 200 appearances for them.

His contract with the club is running out though and there are no signs of him extending his stay as he aims to take a step up.

RKC Waalwijk are aiming to avoid involvement in the relegation playoffs in the Eredivisie and Vaessen is hoping that the 1-1 draw with Zwolle was his final home appearance.

Asked whether that was the case, the goalkeeper told Dutch magazine Voetbal International: “I hope so, yes.”

Celtic are showing interest in Vaessen, who is an attractive prospect due to his contractual situation.

The Bhoys’ current number one Joe Hart is set to bid goodbye to his footballing career at the end of the season and Brendan Rodgers will be in the market for a new number one.

Vaessen has his eyes set on the future and would likely regard Celtic as the kind of big step up he is seeking.
