Matt, 30, was signed to record label RCA but was dramatically dropped by email after releasing his debut album Trouble.

However, after recently coming out as gay, Matt is ready to embrace the next chapter of his life which includes new music.

Teasing his new tracks, the singer exclusively told The Sun: “Music for sure I think that’s my focus.

“I’ve been doing a lot of musicals recently and it’s been sort of hard to turn down those offers but I have to do this now for me.

“To be able to release my music that I think think is good and without someone in my ear telling me what they think is good.

“If I’m happy with it then hopefully whoever is listening, whether that be my mum or whoever then I appreciate it.”

Matt added how ‘difficult’ it was to hide his true self when competing on The X Factor.

He told us at the TV Baftas: “I have to say like, I’ll, I’ll be honest, I feel like for a long time, I’ve sugar-coating everything and I’ve always just tried to, you know, I think it’s important to tell our truth.

“So yeah, it was really difficult. I think it was a time where I hadn’t explored that area of my life yet. So how was I supposed to define myself if I hadn’t, you know, gone there. Which was a really tough thing to do, especially when there was a lot of people asking me am I or aren’t I?

“I just felt you know what, I will tell you when I’m ready, and now I’m ready. So here I am. And yeah, it feels good.”

Matt previously told Gay Times how he is “proud” and “no longer afraid” to open up on his past relationship with a man – which he was forced to keep secret due to the pressures of The X Factor.
