Watch: Mike Johnson leaves Trump's trial to complain he can't hold press conference inside

Speaker Mike Johnson is not happy he had to walk outside to hold a press conference in support of Donald Trump.

Johnson joined with former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) at the Manhattan court on Tuesday to support the party's presumptive nominee for president.

Donald Trump is on trial for 34 felony counts in Manhattan, but instead of appearing in court behind Trump, Johnson walked outside to give an informal press conference to complain that he couldn't give one inside.

"President Trump is a friend, and I'm here to support him," Johnson began in his statement. "I'm here speaking with you inside because the court will not allow us to speak inside the building. That's just one of the many things wrong here."

Trump makes comments inside the courthouse on a regular basis, sometimes several times daily. Courthouses are generally used for the judicial process, and politics is typically kept out as a result.

"This is the fifth week that President Trump has been in court," Johnson said.

Johnson went on to complain that "they are doing this intentionally" to keep Trump from campaigning. In fact, Trump had several days a week he could campaign but went home instead. Every Wednesday, for example, the trial doesn't take place because the judge volunteers in another court. Trump has not had any political events for the past two Wednesdays in a row.

Johnson refused to take any questions from reporters and went on to attack Judge Juan Merchan and current witness, Michael Cohen.
