Fox News analyst: Witness Michael Cohen 'did what he needed to do' to convict Trump

A top legal analyst told Fox News that Michael Cohen "did what he needed to do" on the witness stand for the prosecution to get a conviction in Donald Trump's hush money trial.

As the second day of Cohen's testimony was starting in Manhattan, attorney Mercedes Colwin talked to Fox News host Dana Perino about the testimony of Trump's former "fixer."

Colwin said that former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg was important to the trial because he directly communicated with Trump about the hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

"So what you need to do, at least the prosecutor has to show, is that somehow these conversations are taking place with Allen as an agent of Trump," the attorney explained. "And we already know from from the testimony yesterday morning, Michael Cohen said that Allen Weisselberg worked very closely with former President Trump, that there were anything to do with the finances."

"So a conversation that Michael Cohen has with Allen Weisselberg actually imputes some criminality to Trump," she added. "So it's all subject to connection."

Colwin then praised Cohen's performance on the stand.

"Obviously, this is a direct examination — from everyone that saw the examination and said it was smooth," she noted. "He was articulate. He was unemotional. He did what he needed to do as a prosecutor's key witness."
