Coronation Street sign Shameless legend in new role for Roy Cropper prison plot

CORONATION Street bosses have cast former Shameless actor Warren Donnelly in an upcoming guest stint as part of Roy Cropper’s ongoing prison storyline.

Warren, who is best known to TV fans for playing police officer Stan Waterman on the Channel 4 comedy series for seven seasons, will play a new character named Roscoe, The Sun can reveal.

The character will be the new cellmate of Street icon Roy Cropper (David Nielsen) who is currently on remand after being charged with the murder of missing teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Roscoe looks set to become an ally for struggling Roy as he attempts to make friends with the imprisoned cafe owner.

Warren’s character will be introduced later this month.

The actor’s casting agent recently confirmed his upcoming stint in a recent social media post.

Sharing a snap of Warren, the agency wrote alongside it: “Our Warren Donnelly has been busy filming @itvcorrie.”

The actor appeared on Channel 4 series Shameless between 2004 – 2010.

Warren has also had a number of roles in high profile shows including Life on Mars, The Basil Brush Show, Cold Feet and Bulletproof.

It’s not the first time he would have been on Coronation Street, though.

Fans might remember his brief cameo in 2014, when he appeared as an angry taxi driver named Ralph Davison who took his frustrations out on Eileen (Sue Cleaver) after Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) failed to pay him and the rest of the Streetcars staff.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed Warren will be joining for a guest role.
