STOP DWI tour coming to Shenendehowa High School

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Shenendehowa Central High School and Saratoga County STOP DWI on UNITE's Arrive Alive Tour are partnering with CAPTAIN Community Human Services CAPteens program to bring an under-the-influence and distracted driving simulator to the school. Students can partake in the simulators on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Arrive Alive Tour will use a high-tech simulator to show students how driving drunk, drugged, or distracted would pan out without being in a moving car or being intoxicated. This will show students the safety implications that come along with these types of driving and create safer roads.

UNITE says that drivers aged 16 to 20 experience an accident every 12 minutes with distracted drivers being responsible for more than 58% of the crashes. It also says that the fatal crash rate for teens is three times greater than for drivers over 20 years old.

“With a steady increase in teen driver accidents, we recognize the importance and timeliness of this topic,” noted CAPTAIN CHS Executive Director Andy Gilpin. “We’re grateful for this partnership with Shenendehowa to help educate new and upcoming drivers and to help create safer roads for all of our neighbors.”
