Piers Morgan in race for huge TV award after explosive interview with Baby Reindeer’s ‘real Martha’ Fiona Harvey

PIERS Morgan is in the running for two major TV awards following a string of explosive high profile interviews.

Last week his grilling of Baby Reindeer’s ‘real Martha’ Fiona Harvey made for compulsive viewing and secured countless headlines after he dug into the true story behind the year’s biggest Netflix drama.

The big scoop, which was 58-year-old Harvey’s first television interview, saw her make bold claims that the show’s creator, comedian Richard Gadd, was “psychotic” and the “ultimate misogynist”.

She accused Gadd, whose character Donnie Dunn is harassed by a fantasist called Martha allegedly based on Harvey, of defaming her and made it clear she’d like her day in court.

Despite Gadd’s claims that he did all he could to disguise the real Martha, Harvey was ‘outed’ by internet sleuths within hours of the dark seven-part series premiering last month.

She said: “It’s a work of fiction. It’s a work of hyperbole, as I’ve always said.

“And and there are two true facts in that. His name is Richard Gad, and he worked as a jobbing barman on benefits, in the Holy Arms.

“And we met two, three times.”

Outspoken and unafraid to ask the big questions, Piers’s nod for the Personality of the Year TRIC Award reflects his Uncensored show’s unwillingness to conform to mainstream televised news.

And it is for his head to head sitdown with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that he was nominated in the the Interview of the Year category.

During the unprecedented hour-long conversation, Sunak admitted the Government had failed on their pledge to get NHS waiting lists down – but blamed strikers for making it worse.

He later compared himself to Gareth Southgate, declaring himself ‘like the England Manager’ and that everyone likes to have a pop at his leadership skills.

Piers and Sunak later laid down a £1,000 bet over his new policy on flying migrants out of the UK to Rwanda – sparking dozens of reports across the media.

Other standout nominations at the ‘Oscars of television’ include talkSPORT’s four nominations for its coverage of Women’s World Cup and PDC Darts, White & Jordan up for best Daytime show and Radio Show of the Year.

Times Radio is up for two gongs with Matt Chorley nominated for News Presenter and Times Radio Breakfast for News coverage of the Year, respectively.

Voting closes on Friday 17 May. Go to poll-tric.org.uk or search TRIC Awards
