Schenectady man sentenced to 20 years to life

Tyron Jackson, 36, was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 20 years to life after a jury conviction in March.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Tyron Jackson, 36, was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 20 years to life after a jury conviction in March. He was convicted of two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

According to Schenectady Police, they were executing a Parole Absconder Arrest Warrant on Jackson on May 21, 2023. Jackson reportedly fled the apartment building he was found in. Police observed Jackson pulling a loaded Smith and Wesson semiautomatic handgun from his waistband, which he dropped.

Police took Jackson into custody and recovered the handgun. The jury determined that Jackson possessed the loaded gun with the intent to use it unlawfully against another individual.
