In her viral video, Mary Futher (@madamesweat) shared her affordable hack for removing moisture from your rooms.

She explained that her go-to product is “hiding in the aisles of the dollar store.”

According to the expert, she even figured out a way to make the buy reusable.

Mary recommended using a moisture eliminator box, which uses beads to “pull the moisture from the room.”

To continue using the box, she purchased additional beads online and refilled it.

“Just pour the beads in and you can reuse the container again,” she explained.

“You’ll keep that moist damp area dry as can be.”

Once the beads draw in the moisture in the room, they filter them into the open space below.

This water can be emptied but eventually, the damp beads will need to be replaced.

The Environmental Protection Agency broke down the link between condensation and mold spores.

“Mold may begin growing indoors when mold spores land on surfaces that are wet,” they explained.

“There are many types of mold, and none of them will grow without water or moisture.”

The professionals warned homeowners to act quickly if they notice condensation collecting on walls, windows, ceilings, or pipes.

They explained that rust is a tell-tale sign that moisture is damaging your pipes.

This issue can cause mold spores to form inside the walls of your home.

Tips for mold prevention in the home

  • Act quickly with leaks and spills – dry within 24-48 hours.
  • Clean and repair roof gutters regularly.
  • Make sure the ground slopes away from the foundations to avoid water collecting.
  • Keep air conditioning drip pans clean and drain lines unobstructed.
  • Keep indoor humidity low (ideally under 60).

Instagram users shared their thoughts on the product recommendation in the comments section.

“In Australia, we have extremely high humidity especially this time of year. These containers are a lifesaver,” wrote one viewer.

“I love them, I have them all over my house,” said another impressed follower.

“These are really good to have in your closets for electronics,” commented a third person.

“My grandma has one in her spice cabinet to keep spices dry and not clunky.”
