Twins outfielder Willi Castro furiously threw the ball out of the stadium after a run scored when he lost track of the outs

Twins outfielder Willi Castro has had himself a series to forget against the Yankees, and on Wednesday, he made the worst kind of mistake for a big-league player.

He lost track of the outs.

No matter the level of baseball, every player on the field should be aware of the outs. It’s communicated by teammates before every batter. And in an MLB stadium, it’s displayed everywhere you look on the videoboard and ribbon screens. There’s simply no excuse, and Castro knew he messed up in the second inning against the Yankees.

Here’s a look at what happened on the play.

With the bases loaded and one out, Castro caught a line drive to him at center field. And instead of making a play on Gleyber Torres tagging from third, Castro started jogging towards the dugout as if the inning was over. By the time he realized the outs, Torres was scoring easily.

It was a mistake that simply cannot happen, and Castro also misplayed a fly ball in Tuesday’s game. So when the inning eventually came to an end on a fly out to him, Castro decided to launch the baseball straight out of the stadium.

Not gonna lie: That throw was ridiculously impressive. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli had every reason to be frustrated with Castro for the entire sequence, but he still offered words of encouragement for the outfielder after the Twins’ loss.

MLB fans, though, were not as forgiving.
