Local man arrested for grand larceny in alleged scam

An Albany man was arrested for allegedly running a gift card scam that targeted a Lake County, Florida resident

BETHLEHEM, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- An Albany man was arrested for allegedly running a gift card scam that targeted a Lake County, Florida resident. According to police, Ming Shan Zhu, 33, was charged with third-degree grand larceny.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office told the Bethlehem Police Department that the victim was contacted by Zhu, who said he was from Microsoft. Zhu told the victim he needed $8,500 in Lowes gift cards to fix the victim's computer.

Police said the victim purchased 17 $500 Lowes gift cards and gave Zhu the gift card information. The gift card transactions were traced to Lowes in Glenmont, and Bethlehem Police traced the transactions to Zhu. He was arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court and ordered to appear again on Tuesday, June 4 at 4 p.m.
