Jane Lynch Talks Returning to Her 'Glee' Character, What the Young Cast was Like on Set & More

Jane Lynch had so much to say about Glee during a recent interview.

The 63-year-old actress, who played cheer coach turned Vice President Sue Sylvester on the hit TV series, revealed her thoughts on returning to the franchise in 2024.

She also opened up about the relationships between the cast on set and celebrated two of her young costars who are doing particularly well at the moment.

Jane told People that she was definitely into the idea of playing Sue again.

“It would be so much fun,” she said. “It’s a great character, and I think that, as she ages, 10 years older than the finale, I think there are other things to be added. I think it would be really fun to play Sue Sylvester 10 years later.”

As ever, Sue‘s personality would remain “totally un-woke.”

She continued, reflecting on Glee‘s impact: “That show is a big deal. The character was a big deal. All the characters were a big deal. It kind of hit the psyche of America,” she said. “And it still lives, which is really nice.”

Jane offered a glimpse at what the dynamic was like on the set of the show and how the cast keeps together all these years later.

For her, Matthew Morrison has remained a good friend. Jane also shouted out fellow adult actors Iqbal Theba and Dot-Marie Jones, who she said that she “worked with the most.”

Regarding the younger cast, Jane said, “They got along. They liked each other very much.”

While they were musically talented and ambitious, she added that they weren’t always singing and dancing on set. Sometimes they’d “sneak out for lunch,” coming back later. Other times they were scrolling their phones “like zombies.”

While Glee‘s stars aren’t in constant contact anymore, she said that there are reunions “every time some gets married.”

Jane particularly highlighted two stars who have done well recently – Darren Criss (who she called “unstoppable”) and Lea Michele, who “basically had her dream come true — and the dream for the show come true — with Funny Girl.”

If you missed it, a Glee guest star opened up about how the experience on set was “very dramatic.”
