DoT to launch pilot for caller name display service to combat spam calls

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will soon conduct a pilot to test the implementation of the caller's name display service (CNAP) on mobile phones, following recommendations from the telecom regulator. The pilot will determine whether CNAP should be implemented at the network or physical layer, with results guiding final implementation. CNAP aims to reduce spam and fraud calls. The government plans to mandate CNAP for all mobile phones sold in India after a specified date and will conduct a trial involving all telecom operators.
