Stunning photos showed the American being escorted to a cop car after allegedly failing to follow police orders during a pedestrian fatality probe.

It came just hours before the Masters champion was due to tee off for the PGA Tour at Valhalla Golf Club.

Scheffler reportedly stepped out of his car after a police officer threw himself onto the vehicle and screamed at him to stop.

The officer then shoved him against the car and placed him in handcuffs, before putting him in the back of a police car.

It is believed the incident took place after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into the golf club.

The police report released alongside the photo revealed what he was charged with and confirmed he was booked at 7.28am local time.

It said he was arrested on charges of second degree assault, third degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officer directing traffic.

The start of play for the second round was delayed after a totally unrelated fatal collision outside the course.

Image of golf’s most clean-cut star in handcuffs will shock fans worldwide

Scheffler’s arrest for allegedly speeding past a police car on his way to tee off in round two of the USPGA Championship goes against everything the god-fearing family man stands for.

The fact that it has happened barely a week after his wife, Meredith, gave birth to their first child, Bennett, makes it even more shocking.

Scheffler and Ryder Cup team-mate Sam Burns organise a bible group attended by other PGA Tour players and caddies, and there has never been a whiff of scandal associated with the 27 year old.

Before returning to action at the USPGA – following a three week break to enjoy becoming a dad for the first time – Scheffler spoke about how blissfully happy his life was now.

He said: “At home it was a nice time to reflect a little bit on my career so far and where my life has gone.

“I married my high school sweetheart and I always wanted to play professional golf, and of course I’ve done that, and won two Masters and become world No 1.

“When I was at home I was sitting there with a newborn in my arms and the green jacket in the closet. It was a pretty special time I think.”

But it looks like one mix-up may have turned Scheffler’s world upside down.

Louisville Metro Police Department released a statement on the incident.

It said: “About 5:00 ET this morning, the LMPD responded to a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a bus.

“Our preliminary investigation found that an adult male pedestrian was crossing Shelbyville Roadsouth to north when he was struck by a shuttle bus that was traveling eastbound in the compulsory center lane dedicated for buses.

“As a result, the pedestrian received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating.”

ESPN have reported that Scheffler had now been released and could have an hour to prepare for the second round and make his 3:08pm tee off.

Footage from the course has now shown Scheffler arriving at the golf club for the second day.

Inside devout Christian Scottie Scheffler’s fairytale romance with wife Meredith

By Jon Boon

FORGET winning The Masters, there was one thing on Scottie Scheffler’s mind as soon as he was presented with the Green Jacket last month.

With his wife, Meredith expecting their first child imminently, devout Christian Scheffler declared: “I’m coming home.

World No 1 Scheffler had already revealed he would drop everything at a hat at Augusta if she had gone into labour while he was on the course.

Thankfully he didn’t have to make that decision when he was honing in on his second Masters title in just three years.

But that emotional message to Meredith, who works for a non-profit organisation that raises money and awareness for childhood cancer research, showed the close bond they have.

He made sure to FaceTime her, as she was watching the action unfold from home.

The pair of teenage sweethearts from Texas were about to embark on a journey of parenthood together for the first time.

And Scheffler’s emotion on the 18th must have been coupled with thoughts that he was also about to become a dad.

It was as a teen he met Meredith for the first time.

Despite going to different colleges, they made it work and devoted themselves to one another and, after graduating in 2018, Scheffler popped the question in 2020.
