The United States House of Representatives, led by Republicans, approved a bill on Thursday that would require President Joe Biden to send weapons to Israel.

According to Reuters, this move is a protest against the Biden administration’s decision to stop arms shipments to Israel.

Joe Biden had warned that if Israel attacked Rafah in southern Gaza, he would halt arms shipments to the country.

Biden has repeatedly explicitly called on Israel to make greater efforts to protect civilians and refrain from a full-scale ground attack on Rafah in southern Gaza.

The bill supporting security assistance to Israel was passed with 224 votes in favor and 187 against, mostly along party lines.

Sixteen Democrats voted in favor of it, and three Republicans voted against it.

It is not expected that this bill will become law, but its approval indicates how deep the divide is between the two parties regarding policy on Israel as the presidential elections approach.

Palestinian officials say that at least 35,272 civilians have been killed during Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The hunger crisis in this region has reached its peak, and a vast portion of its population has become homeless.

Republicans have accused Biden of turning his back on Israel after facing widespread protests from Palestinian supporters.

Democrats, on the other hand, have accused the other side of playing politics and stated that Republicans are distorting Biden’s stance towards Israel.

Israel, the main recipient of U.S. military aid for several decades, despite the halt of 2,500-pound bomb shipments and the review of other weapons, is still set to receive billions of dollars in U.S. arms shipments.
