Chris Pratt Mourns Stunt Double's Death at 47
Chris Pratt has starred in some of the biggest action movies of the past decade. To do work like this, actors like Pratt often rely on stunt doubles, and on some of his biggest projects, Pratt had the help of accomplished stunt actor Tony McFarr.
On May 16, TMZ confirmed that McFarr died at the age of 47. According to his mother Donna, he lived an active and healthy life, so his passing at such a young age was completely unexpected. The Orange County Medical Examiner's Office is now running toxicology tests on McFarr to determine a possible cause of death.
McFarr stood in for Pratt in Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Passengers. Following the news of McFarr's death, the 44-year-old took to his Instagram Stories to share photos of the pair on various film sets together. He went on to eulogize the beloved actor.
"Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double Tony McFarr," Pratt wrote. "We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set."
Pratt went on to reminisce on one of his favorite memories they have together that spoke to McFarr's dedication to his work. "I'll never forget his toughness. I remember he took a nasty shot to the head (in the title sequence of Guardians 2) and got several staples in his head. He came right back to work ready to go again," Pratt recalled. "He was an absolute stud. He was always a gentleman and professional. He'll be missed. My prayers go out to his friends and family, especially his daughter."
McFarr is survived by his parents, his sister, and his daughter. His family plans for him to be buried in Pennsylvania near his grandmother.
