Rohit Sharma Unlikely To Stay At Mumbai Indians For IPL 2025, Opines Legendary Anil Kumble

Rohit Sharma was Mumbai Indians’ best batter in IPL 2024 with 417 runs from 17 matches including an unbeaten hundred.

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma would like to go out of Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions, opined former India captain Anil Kumble. Rohit has been the cynosure of all eyes in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Stripped of captaincy before the start of the season, Mumbai Indians appointed Hardik Pandya as the new skipper. However, the decision backfired, both for the franchise as well as the fans. While the five-time champions finished at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 games, Hardik was consistently booed by the crowd whenever he took the field to lead the franchise.

To add more to that, a video clip of Rohit seemingly conveying his frustration about the Mumbai Indians management with KKR’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar too went viral on social media. “Let’s be fair. I’m sure there’d be a conversation, which is not going to be easy,” Kumble told JioCinema.

“Ideally, that conversation needs to happen after the World Cup. You don’t know whether Rohit will remain with MI; I’m sure he would want to go out. Teams will look for captains too,” said the legendary leg-spinner. For the fact, Rohit emerged as top run-getter for Mumbai Indians wot 417 runs including an unbeaten hundred.

While Hardik was successful with Gujarat Titans in the two seasons he led, that didn’t transpire at Mumbai Indians. Under Pandya, Mumbai Indians failed completely. Kumble named two of Pandya’s teammates as potential leadership candidates in case the management wants to change the all-rounder.

“Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav are leadership materials, too. Bumrah has captained India. Even if the franchises want to keep them, the ball remains with the players. It all depends on how they are going to go about,” said Kumble.

While Bumrah led India in only one Test against England in 2022, Suryakumar was handed the India captaincy in the T20Is against South Africa last year in the absence of Rohit and Pandya.
