Ange Postecoglou yesterday described his experience this week at Tottenham Hotspur as probably his worst time in management.

The Australian hit the headlines for his comments in the wake of Spurs’ 2-0 defeat against Manchester City which all but ended Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League title yet also shut the door on his club’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

After such strong comments, Postecoglou was asked during yesterday’s pre-Sheffield United press conference on whether he was still happy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and was clear with his answer.

Many Tottenham fans were happy to lose the match against Pep Guardiola’s side given the prospect of their North London rivals having the bragging rights over being league champions.

Is Ange Postecoglou happy at Tottenham?

Postecoglou told Football.London: “I’ve lost five out of six games, I’m not going to come in here and be happy. Look, I’m hoping you guys after a year with me have understood I am who I am. I can’t hide who I am and what I believe.

“If I’m not happy about something, I’m going to say I’m not happy. We’ve lost five out of six games. I’m gutted.

“I’m not going to walk into a press conference and try to paint a rosy picture. Especially on the back of the preceding 24 hours where like I said, it was the most unenjoyable experience I’ve had on the touchline in my whole career. That’s 26 years of football. Where I’m sitting on the sideline and not really enjoying the battle against one of the best. I could have sent in [my assistant] Chris Davies, mate, and probably everyone’s fears would be allayed and everything will be great. But at least everyone knows how I feel.

“But am up for the fight? Absolutely, mate. I love it. This is why I’ve come here and this ain’t the last fight I’m going to have, for sure. I’ll be honest with you, the biggest fight I’ll have at this football club is when we get close to success. That will be the biggest one.”

Tottenham finish their Premier League campaign tomorrow with a trip to Sheffield United where the North Londoners need to avoid an upset to qualify for the Europa League and avoid the prospect of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea finishing above them in fifth place.

SpursWeb Opinion

Postecoglou wore his heart on his sleeve with his comments after the City match and has gone some way to reparing some bridges with elements of the fanbase with his comments yesterday.

Everyone needs to back the Australian heading into the next season, none more so than the board given the level of rebuild that needs to be undertaken in the Tottenham first-team squad if we are to challenge for trophies.
