These are the highest paid employees in the City of Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of Austin pays its employees more than $1.3 billion each year in base salaries, according to data obtained by KXAN.

The data, as of March 26, 2024, shows the City has 15,164 paid full-time employees and 2,771 paid part-time employees. A further 10 people appeared on the city's payroll, most of whom are unpaid interns.

The average full-time employee earns $82,727.13 annually, while the average part-time employee earns $31,439.93. The figures only include base salaries, so overtime pay is not taken into account.

Almost 3,900 city employees earn more than $100,000 annually, while 30 have a base salary of at least $250,000.

Here's a look at the highest-paid city employees:

Five of the city's top earners work for Austin Energy, including General Manager Robert Kahn, who is the highest-paid employee in the city, with a base salary of just over $475,000.

As of March 26, City Manager Jesus Garza had the second-highest salary, around $350,000. He has since been replaced in the role by T.C. Broadnax, who earns a base salary of $470,017.60, a 34% increase over Garza.
