Asda urgently pulls essential household device from shelves over fears it could ‘overheat’ and catch on fire

ASDA has urgently pulled an essential cleaning device from its shelves amid fears it could burn the house down.

The supermarket is recalling Goblin GHV102W-20 White mini handheld cordless vac as the battery in some units “may overheat and could pose a fire safety risk if left on charge and unattended”.

The £18 cordless device – which boasts a 20 minute run time – contains a 7.4V lithium battery.

Asda’s recall notice goes on to say owners of the product should “stop using the unit and return it to your nearest Asda store for a full refund or exchange”.

It adds: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused”.

Products with the site codes 15A.08.20.115, 15A.10.21.181 and 15A.09.22.168 are affected by this recall.

But products with the code 15A.09.22.168A are not subject to the alert.

It comes after a high street restaurant giant urgently recalled a £3.50 dish sold at Asda, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s over fears it may “contain plastic”.

The popular chain has issued the recall notice following fears the product is “unsafe to eat”.
