Guilderland PD arrest 16-year-old with handgun

The Guilderland Police Department reported the Friday arrest of an unnamed 16-year-old.

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Guilderland Police Department reported the Friday arrest of an unnamed 16-year-old. This arrest followed the police responding to a car crash with injuries near Western Avenue and Church Road in Guilderland.

The occupants of the other car in the crash sustained minor non-life-threatening injuries and were treated by Guilderland Emergency Medical Services, according to law enforcement. The police report responding to the crash where a Jeep rear-ended another car and then the Jeep occupants allegedly fled on foot.

Officers report checking the area and finding someone matching one of the Jeep occupant's descriptions walking down Church Road before they fled on foot, causing a foot pursuit. Police say that during the pursuit the suspect discarded a loaded Glock 9-millimeter handgun before being captured near Woodlake Apartments.

Charges

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Second-degree obstructing governmental administration

The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old from Troy, according to the police. The teen was arraigned in the Youth Part of the Superior Court and released to the custody of his parents.
