It’s an important thing too

When we talked about Kyle Filipowski’s draft prospects Friday, we talked about several aspects of his game but completely forgot one that’s highly impressive and getting better rapidly: his passing.

He certainly showed a keen eye for it at Duke.

The big guy could find cutters with no problem and emerged as one of the better passers in the ACC last season. More strikingly, he could whip passes across the court and through defenses. There were a couple of things about those that were interesting.

First, that he had the imagination and daring to do it and second the force that he put behind those passes. Not everyone can do that. At one point we said it reminded us a bit of Nikola Jokic, which may seem over the top. On the other hand though, he’s bound to be studying the Joker. Who wouldn't?

There are things that he can improve marginally, like his lateral quickness. Some things are baked in the cake, if you will.

Passing is not one of those things.

Filipowski’s passing is something that could put him on a different level in the NBA. We don’t know how much it will improve in the NBA of course, but it’s one of the most intriguing aspects of his game and something that we’d keep an eye on.
