Police: Burglars steal 10 handguns from gun shop in Southington

Ten guns were stolen during a burglary at a gun shop in Southington on Sunday.

Police were able to recover one of the stolen guns after tracking the vehicle that was used by the burglars and later abandoned in Cheshire, according to a statement issued by Lt. Keith Egan of the Southington Police Department.

Officers responded to Lock N Load Firearms, located at 1573 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, in the early morning hours upon receiving a burglary alarm, Egan said. Video from inside the store showed that the burglars entered the building through the front window, which tripped the alarm.

A total of 10 handguns were reported stolen during the incident, according to Egan.

Shortly after the burglary, an officer located the vehicle suspected to be used by the thieves and “tracked it” before it was later abandoned in Cheshire across from Interstate 691 on Route 10, Egan said. One gun was left inside and recovered by police.

Officers checked the area and could not find the suspects.

Egan said Southington police are working with the ATF and local business owners to find the other nine guns.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Det. John Marenholz at 860-378-1648.
