It is one of the busiest pedestrian centres in the world and also a focal point for US entertainment industries.

Ben Thompson, 43, responded with excitement after seeing the image on social media.

He wrote: “Times. Fricking. Square. See you in a couple of weeks New York!”

Fans flocked to the comments to compliment him on the huge achievement.

One person wrote: “That is seriously cool. Not sure how you’ll top that.”

Another gushed: “I’d be the same. That would be my profile banner pic forever on every social I have. Great stuff Ben.”

A third exclaimed: “This is amazing! Congratulations.”

The presenter from Burnley has a career with the BBC that spans over two decades.

He first began working with the company in 2001 when he took on a role at Radio Wales in Cardiff.

Whilst studying at university, Ben produced the network’s morning news programme, Good Morning Wales, and was then selected for a BBC Trainee Scheme.

After completing his degree in international business and French, and a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism, Ben moved to London and joined BBC News.

Ben worked for a few years as a producer before moving in front of the camera, working as a correspondent in the Middle East and, later, New York.

Now he is best known for being a presenter on BBC Breakfast.

He stepped down from hosting the show full time in 2021, but steps in regularly to cover colleague’s absences.
