In a clip on their @bmstorestv account, the budget retailer wrote: “Five reasons to go faux.”

The first reason is because fake flowers are “low maintenance and high aesthetic”, according to B&M.

The shop added: “They stay fresh and vibrant forever.”

Fake plants are also great as they have “versatile placement” and have “no sunlight stress.”

Another huge benefit is that “no green fingers are required.”

And perfect if you are susceptible to hayfever, the plants are also “allergy friendly.”

B&M added: “Repeat after us: Faux plants don’t have to be a faux pas.

“Reasons you should be incorporating artificial plants into your home.

“We’ve got a HUGE selection of artificial plants waiting to liven up your space.

“Come explore.”

They showed in their video how they have a large collection of artificial greenery, from fake ferns to hanging white flowers and window boxes.

And prices start from as little as £5 for small potted plants.

Fans seemed keen to snap them up, with one saying: “I’m on my way!”

“I have a very hard time keeping plants alive on this front porch,” she explained.

“I’m sparing any more innocent plant lives and using faux stems from Amazon to make my own.”

To fake the illusion of real plants, she stuffed her large planter with boxes to make up for the bulk of the height.

For the remaining space at the top, she filled in the gaps with foam green blocks.

  1. B&M stands for Billington & Mayman – after it’s founder Malcolm Billington.
  2. The first store was opened in Blackpool
  3. B&M now has over 700 stores
  4. The company employs over 35,000 people
  5. Four million customers visit B&M a week

Experts have chimed in on the best artificial plants to buy if you are time-poor.

Alick Burnett, MD at Blooming Artificial advised Ideal Home: “The easiest artificial house plants to keep clean are broad-leaf faux like fiddle leaf figs, cheese plants and calathea. While their big leaf surfaces will catch a bit more dust than a more intricate faux, they can be cleaned quickly and easily with a damp cloth.

“Starting at the top of the plant to avoid dust falling onto already cleaned leaves, wipe each leaf from inside to out. Work your way down and then give the leaves a quick dry with a dry cloth or kitchen roll.

“More intricate plants like ferns, grasses and flowers may require intricate cleaning with a paintbrush or compressed air. There are artificial plant cleaning sprays available, however, for all but the most stubborn marks and dirt, are mostly unnecessary and risk discolouring some fauxs.”
