Cassie’s Lawyers Weren’t Afraid to Show How the Singer Feels About Sean 'Diddy’ Combs’ Apology Video

Trigger Warning: This article contains mention of physical and verbal abuse.

Over this past week, a 2016 video of Sean “Diddy” Combs physically abusing his ex, Cassie Ventura, which was first obtained by CNN, has made its rounds online. After all, the evidence in the video is both disturbing and irrefutable.

And while Ventura and Combs settled the federal lawsuit she filed against him in November 2023, the video has brought to light just how much Ventura endured during their relationship from 2007 to 2018.

Plus, it pushed Combs to share his first-ever apology on social media. “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life. Sometimes you gotta do that,” the rapper said in a video on Instagram. “I was f—– up. I mean I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable.”

“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” he continued. “I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help, going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to [being] a better man. Each and every day.”

Most recently, Ventura’s lawyer Meredith Firetog showed how Ventura and her legal team are feeling about Combs’ apology video. “Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” Firetog told People in a statement.

The lawyer then continued, pointing out that the video was the first time Combs took accountability for his actions. “When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday,” Firetog said. “That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”

Prior to Firetog’s statement, another lawyer for Ventura, Douglas H. Wigdor, praised his client’s bravery in coming forward against a high-profile public figure. “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs,” Wigdor told CNN. “Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”

So while the world may be now grappling with the severity of Combs’ abuse, we’re applauding Cassie for speaking out, and her lawyers for sticking by her side.
