Arne Slot’s first task as Liverpool manager revealed as Reds confirm when he will start work as Klopp’s replacement
ARNE SLOT has been officially announced as Liverpool’s new manager.
The Feyenoord boss will replace Jurgen Klopp in the dugout next season after his emotional farewell at Anfield yesterday.
Klopp has been in charge for nine years – but revealed back in January that he was stepping down at the end of the campaign.
He confirmed Slot, 45, was replacing him last night as he gave a speech to Liverpool supporters after their 2-0 win over Wolves.
And the club have now revealed that the Dutchman will begin work on July 1 – subject to a work permit.
Liverpool’s pre-season is set to begin in July, meaning he will have a few days to settle into his new office before the players start returning from their holidays.
Slot has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Reds, according to The Telegraph.
And they also claim his first task will be to help Darwin Nunez and several of his team-mates “fulfil their potential”.
The striker controversially did not applaud Klopp as the legendary manager said his goodbyes to Liverpool yesterday.
SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this month that Nunez has been linked with a transfer to Barcelona.

Manager Arne Slot, 45
Slot has led Feyenoord for three seasons, wining the Eredivisie title in 2023 and the KNVB Cup in 2024.
A former footballer in Holland, he is known to be a perfectionist and favours attacking football like Jurgen Klopp.
Assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff, 49
Hulshoff currently serves as Ronald Koeman’s assistant manager with the Holland national team and also works alongside Slot at Feyenoord.
He has had two spells as manager at little-known Dutch side Cambuur.
Head of performance Ruben Peeters, 31
A former fitness coach at Genk, Peeters has been working with Slot at Feyenoord since 2021.
The Belgian has a Master’s Degree in Sports Sciences.
Chief analyst Etienne Reijnen, 37
Former centre back who retired from football in 2020 to move into coaching.
In October 2023, Reijnen joined Feyenoord as assistant coach, to focus on analysing and providing technical advise to Arne Slot.
In his emotional speech yesterday, Klopp said: “I’m surprised. I thought I’d already be in pieces but I’m not.
“I’m so happy about you all, the atmosphere, the game, being a part of this family and about us, how we celebrate this day.
“It doesn’t feel like an end. It just feels like a start. Today I saw a football team play full of talent, youth, creativity, desire, greed. That’s one part of development, that’s what you need obviously.
“In these few weeks where I have had too much attention, I realised a lot of things. People say I turned them from doubters into believers.
“That’s not true. You did it. Nobody tells you to stop believing. This club is in a better moment than a long time.
“We have this wonderful stadium, training centre and you – the superpower of world football. Wow.
“We decide if we are worried or excited. We decide if we believe. We decide if we trust or don’t trust. Today I am one of you and I keep believing. I stay believing 100 per cent.
“Obviously I saw a lot of people crying and I will tonight too because I will miss people but change is good. Everything will be fine because the basics are 100 per cent there.
“You welcome the new manager like you welcomed me. You go all in from the first day. You keep believing. You push the team. I’m one of you now. I love you to bits.
“Thank you. You are the best team in the world. Thank you!”
Klopp then started a chant for successor before going around the ground and performing his iconic first pumps.
All before enjoying a leaving party as he danced with John Barnes.
Slot’s playing days saw him feature as a midfielder for the likes of NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam and PEC Zwolle.
He hung up his boots in 2013 and worked as a youth coach at his last club.
After briefly becoming interim head coach at PEC Zwolle, Slot landed his job as a manager at Cambuur.
He then took charge of AZ Alkmaar before being poached by Feyenoord.
At the Rotterdam-based side, he won the league title last year and signed off with a domestic cup triumph this season.
He also led them to the Conference League final in 2022 – but they lost to Roma.
