I’m a vet and don’t understand the point of a popular breed – they’re drooly, gassy, & slam into you like a bowling ball

A VET has shared they don’t understand the hype behind a popular dog breed.

They come with many health issues, and the dog expert shared a long list of high-maintenance problems with the breed as well.

Redditor 3TipsyCoachman3 opened up about their least favorite animal in a viral post.

While they had nothing against dogs of any kind, they explained that they’ve had ruff personal experiences with a certain breed.

“I don’t hate any breeds, but I don’t understand the point of bulldogs,” they said.

“Endless skin issues, utterly [senseless], unaware of their bodies in [spaces], so their vigor leads them to slam into you like a bowling ball regularly,” they said.

A study by the Royal Veterinary College suggests that bulldogs require much more attention to reduce their serious health issues.

After comparing over 2,600 bulldogs with 22,000 non-bulldog breeds, scientists “found that bulldogs were more than twice as likely to have one or more disorders in a single year than other dogs.”

The list of pet peeves for the vet went on.

“Dumb, stubborn, drooly, gassy, require cleaning of folds constantly, can’t do anything much because they overheat, and almost always have horrific health issues including not even being able to give birth without a c-section,” they added.

The vet explained that taking the breed anywhere, even, was a nightmare scenario.

“I am so puzzled that anyone wants to own one,” they admitted.

“I have never met one its owner could control if it wanted to drag them somewhere.”

Though they prefaced that not all bulldogs matched their description, they’d met enough to be weaned off them forever.

“I’m sure there are individual breeders and owners out there who have dogs that differ from my description, but I have never met one,” they said.

Other vets agreed that bulldogs were not a personal favorite breed of theirs.

Signs your dog could turn dangerous

Expert advice from Dr. Sara Ochoa, who has been practicing veterinary medicine for over five years.

Ochoa told The U.S. Sun observing a dog’s behavior can provide clues that they might act out.

“A dog that looks tense all over with its fur sticking up or teeth showing is more likely to snap,” she said.

“Staring real hard without blinking could mean trouble too.

“Growling is also a warning the dog is getting mad.”

She said dogs may tuck their tail between their legs when they feel scared or threatened.

“Staying calm and keeping space may help things not to escalate if a dog seems on edge,” she said.

“Ugly never matters to me, but there are a few breeds that I hesitate to recommend,” said one.

They added that they would personally never adopt a bulldog due to its health reasons.

“I know lots of people with French Bulldogs, and I have never seen such ugly dogs in all my life,” said another.

“Cold, horrible eyes, wide heads…I just can’t understand how anyone looks at them and thinks they’re cute.

“Even the puppies are hideous, in my opinion.”

A third vet agreed that it was morally gray to adopt or breed bulldogs due to their physical limitations.

“French bulldogs! It frustrates me how they’re super trendy but have a ridiculous amount of health issues that people just overlook,” they said.

“I just don’t understand the point of buying/breeding a dog that’s just gonna suffer one way or the other.

“I saw one in person whose face was so flat it looked like someone had chopped off the snout of a normal dog.”
