Coney Island Beach to reopen Memorial Day weekend; Governors Island to stay open later

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Having trouble figuring out what to do during Memorial Day weekend?

You're in luck, as beaches around New York City are set to reopen for swimming on Saturday, May 25. That includes Coney Island Beach, which will be open for swimming from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you're not in the mood to swim, Luna Park will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight during Memorial Day weekend. The amusement park will also be open from 10 a.m. to midnight on Memorial Day, which is Monday, May 27.

Governors Island will also be open later starting Memorial Day weekend. You'll be able to visit the island from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

The South Island Park, which includes Picnic Point, the Hills, Hammock Grove and the Play Lawns will still close at 6 p.m. daily.

We Belong Here will also be holding a pop-up event on Governors Island during Memorial Day weekend. Musical artists like Le Youth, Aluna, SIDEPIECE and more are expected to perform from May 24 through May 26, according to organizers.

Memorial Day weekend is expected to be in the low to mid 70s and cloudy, according to PIX11 meteorologists. Saturday will see a high of 76 degrees.
