Courteney Cox Says Matthew Perry 'Visits' Her Often
She says she talks to him.
The death of Friends star Matthew Perry in October 2023 caught the world by surprise. Just a year prior, Perry published an honest memoir detailing his personal struggles and appeared to be living a healthy life.
His sudden death left a void in the lives of countless Friends fans, as well as his own co-stars. Now, with more than six months of hindsight, Perry's on-screen wife Courteney Cox is reflecting on their real-life relationship after his death. She opened up about their spiritual connection in a May 19 interview with CBS News Sunday Morning.
"I think he’s probably one of the funniest human beings in the world. You know, he’s just so funny," Cox mused. "He is genuinely a huge heart, obviously struggled. I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years."
"He visits me a lot, if we believe in that," she added. She went on to explain that she speaks with other people who've passed on who meant a lot to her. "I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew. I feel like there are a lot of people that, I think, guide us," she said. "I sense Matthew’s around, for sure."
After Perry's death last year, Cox mourned his passing on Instagram and shared a touching memory of their time working together on Friends.
"When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites. To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one-night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story," she explained. "In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind."
"I am so grateful for every moment I had with you, Matty," she said. "I miss you every day."
