Julie Provenzano, a realtor from the US, shared her thoughts on grey homes, as well as a popular trend that Facebook mums love, but has got to go.

Not only this, but she also revealed the popular trend that she predicts won’t be as popular this year.

Sharing her thoughts on social media, Julie said: “Here are the worst interior design trends.”

First of all, Julie explained why grey paint should be avoided, as she explained: “Before everyone freaks out, I do think grey is sophisticated and soothing, but can we all agree that we overdid it?

“We took a good thing and we overdid it to the point that it now feels copy, paste, basic.”

Not only this, but she then shared her thoughts on a popular bathroom trend, that she thinks makes your home look more like a public toilet.

She added: “White subway tile with dark grout – once and for all, this is for public bathrooms.”

Finally, the interior lover explained that open plan living is no longer as popular as it once was, as she concluded: “Some people are not gonna like this, but an interior design trend that’s on the way out may just be open concept floor plans.

“People these days are craving more intimate spaces and warmth and from what I’m seeing, that’s gonna be way more in demand in 2024.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @trulyjuliehomes, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up a whopping 147,400 views.

But social media users were left totally divided by Julie’s claims – whilst many were keen to agree, others couldn’t disagree more.

One person said: “I’ve never been a fan of open concept.”

Another added: “I loathe subway tiles.”

A third commented: “I agree, totally and I don’t like grey.”

2024’s Top Trending Colours for Interior Design

Homebase has revealed the official trending colours for this year.

To predict the top shades of 2024, sales data at Homebase analysed 5 colours that have surged in popularity with customers.

Copper, pink and black are predicted to be the hottest colours on Brit’s walls this year, while bathrooms are seeing a surprising rise in terracotta colour schemes.

The top five trending colours for 2024 are:

  1. Copper (+57%)
  2. Pink (+38%)
  3. Black (+34%)
  4. Green (+29%)
  5. Orange (+27%)

Copper has replaced rose gold, whilst blush is the new magnolia, and Brits are also going bold by slapping black paint all over their walls.

Green is always popular colour, but the shade ‘Fresh Herb’ – a versatile, pale grey-toned green – is hitting hundreds of customers baskets.

Meanwhile, terracotta is taking over with ‘Frosted Papaya’, a peachy orange shade dominating bathrooms.

However, at the same time, not everyone was as keen on Julie’s thoughts.

One user wrote: “Grey all the way. Brings me happiness in my space. Accents are way cheaper to change.”

Interior trends for summer 2024

HERE are the five interior trends to look out for this summer.

LEAFY PRINTS: In this summer are big, bold, leafy prints. Houseplants can also be used to add style and depth to your space.

RED ALERT: The shade to know this season is tomato red, which works beautifully in kitchens. Matching red accessories won’t go a miss either.

LAYERING MATERIALS: We’re tapping into summer with a casual Mediterranean vibe. Layering materials such as cotton, linen and wicker will make your home feel fresh and inviting.

GO FOR GINGHAM: Geometric motifs are a popular trend, and gingham is the prettiest way to embrace them. Perfect for the bedroom, a duvet set or throw will instantly bring a room to life.

SIMPLY THE ZEST: We’re seeing dining sets featuring strawberries, lemons, and every fruit in between all over the high-street. Even Primark has a huge range of items that will leave your guests impressed.

Whilst someone else simply penned: “Open concept till I die.”

To this, Julie replied: “Ha! Like I always say, whatever brings you happiness in your personal space.

“My house is super open now too, but I am seeing a shift in buyer demand.”
