European Heavyweights See Young Celtic Star As ‘Serious Talent’

European heavyweights Bayer Leverkusen consider young Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly to be a ‘serious talent’ and want to take him to Germany, according to Football Scotland.

Kelly, who is Academy Player of the Year at Celtic, operates as a playmaker and his performances have turned heads at home and abroad.

Celtic are keen to sit down for talks over a contract for Kelly, who is now involved in the first team set-up, and that is expected to happen this week as they aim to secure him.

However, there is fierce interest from Germany’s new champions, Leverkusen, who have had a superb season to cement their status as one of the Bundesliga’s top sides.

The BayArena outfit have noted Kelly’s development and potential and believe him to be a ‘serious talent’ that they want to add to the ranks.

If Kelly were to go to Germany now then Celtic would be due a compensation package of around £500,000.

Celtic are keen to avoid that scenario playing out and will look to convince the 18-year-old to pen a contract.

Brendan Rodgers has involved the midfielder in his first team set-up this season and Kelly played in Scottish Premiership games against Dundee, Hearts, St Johnstone and Livingston.

More games in the first team are likely to follow for Kelly if he stays put.
