Police found two bodies in a house in Nottingham after ‘concerns were raised for their welfare’.

Neighbours were shocked and saddened by the discovery on Hartley Road, Radford, on Tuesday morning, NottinghamshireLive reported.

They said it had been months since she’d seen the property’s most recent occupants – a mother and daughter believed to be in their 40s and teens, who had lived there for eight years.

Police said the bodies may have been ‘undiscovered for some time’.

They were spotted searching bins at the property, which ‘hadn’t been taken out in a while’, according to one neighbour, Deborah Williams.

She said the house’s windows had been open since early February when she’d last seen the pair.

Their disappearance wasn’t immediately suspicious due to their history of going away for months at a time.

Williams told the paper: ‘The mum always seemed very calm. It’s a shame. They seemed to be living a simple, normal life, not drawing any unnecessary attention.’

Both bodies were removed through the back garden.

Forensics teams wearing white suits had arrived at the property, sealed off with red hazard tape, by Tuesday evening.

One neighbour said: ‘I saw the police investigating but wasn’t sure what happened.

‘I didn’t see any suspicious activity before. It’s shocking to know something like this has happened on our doorstep. It’s just a normal residential street.’

Another neighbour, who asked to stay anonymous, said: ‘It’s very sad, I’m at a loss for words.

‘I’ve tried finding out online what exactly happened but couldn’t find anything. It’s so sad.’

The two bodies are yet to be formally identified, and police have not declared any cause of death.

But police ‘don’t believe there to be an immediate risk to the public’.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow said: ‘We are keeping an open mind into what has happened at this address and will be working hard over the next few days to establish how and when these two women lost their lives.

‘In the meantime, my thoughts – and those of every other officer involved in this investigation – are with those who have died, their family and friends.’
