Gather outdoor seating by Foster + Partners for Escofet
Dezeen Showroom: architecture firm Foster + Partners aimed to create relaxed outdoor areas with Gather, its ultra-thin concrete seating solution for Spanish street furniture brand Escofet.
Gather outdoor seating is a modular system made from Escofet's own ultra-high-performance concrete, called Slimconcrete, which is finished by hand.
Using Slimconcrete enabled Foster + Partners to achieve a refined and slender profile with the furniture, which tapers to a 40-millimetre thickness at the edge of its backrest and cantilevered seat.
The Gather system includes linear, concave, convex and end modules, which can be combined to create configurations ranging from enclosed pocket spaces to long lines of curving or straight seating.
Along with another new Foster + Partners collection, titled Tiers, Gather was developed in tandem with the architecture practice's landscape and urban design teams, intended to encourage the active use of public space.
