‘Nothing is done’ – Fabrizio Romano says Spurs still have hope in centre-back race
Fabrizio Romano has said that the race for Tottenham target Riccardo Calafiori remains wide open as we edge closer to the opening of the summer transfer window.
The speculation over Calafiori’s future has run rife over the last couple of months, which is not surprising, given the impact the young defender has had in his debut Serie A season for Bologna.
Over recent days, several Italian outlets have indicated that Juve are now in pole position to land the 21-year-old after opening talks with Bologna, who are thought to value the defender at around £21.5m (CalcioMercato).
Race still open for Riccardo Calafiori
However, Romano has now taken to social media to confirm that as things stand, Calafiori is not close to sealing a move to any club.
He explains that several teams from around the continent are keeping tabs on the Italy Under-21 international’s situation on the back of his excellent displays this season.
The journalist says that while the Bianconeri have been tracking the situation in March, they are yet to make significant progress towards landing the centre-back.

One would certainly expect Tottenham to test the waters with an offer for Calafiori over the coming weeks as the youngster ticks a number of boxes for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Spurs should be able to outbid Juve and other Serie A sides but the player might be hesitant to leave Italy at this stage of his career.
