Louisiana state parks and pools open for Memorial Day weekend

SABINE PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Louisiana State Parks encourage residents to 'Splash into Summer' for Memorial Day Weekend at one of their water playgrounds and beach swimming pools.

According to the news release, the following pools will be available during Memorial Day weekend, beginning Saturday, May 25, and ending on Memorial Day: Chemin-A-Haut near Bastrop, Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville, and North Toledo Bend near Zwolle.

According to La. State Parks, the Torledo Ben Reservoir is one of the country's largest man-made reservoirs, providing a venue for various water—and land-based activities.

North Toledo Bend Reservoir includes a full-size swimming pool with restrooms 'for the summer season' and a laundry for those staying.

The pool schedule is as follows:

  • Memorial Weekend, May 25 to 27,
  • Close the following day, Tuesday 28th - Thursday, for maintenance;
  • Resumes Thursdays - Sundays at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the summer till August 1.

“From Chemin-A-Haut to Grand Isle, Louisiana State Parks’ pools, water playgrounds, and beach swimming areas offer great ways for visitors of all ages to cool off and enjoy the outdoors this summer,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.

According to the news release, 'day-use pools, water playgrounds, and beach swimming areas are available at no additional charge to overnight and day-use visitors.'

La. State Park water playgrounds are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are located at the following state parks:

  • Bogue Chitto near Franklinton (with 'designated beach swimming' (DBS) area),
  • Chicot in Ville Platte,
  • Fontainebleau in Mandeville (with DBS' area),
  • Jimmie Davis near Chatham (with DBS area),
  • Lake Bruin in St. Joseph,
  • Palmetto Island near Abbeville,
  • Poverty Point Reservoir in Delhi (with DBS area),
  • St. Bernard in Braithwaite
  • and Tickfaw in Springfield.

La. State Park's designated beach swimming areas are open daily. However, they do not have lifeguard supervision.

Other DBS areas include Cypremort Point West of Franklin, Fontainebleau in Mandeville, Grand Isle, Lake Claiborne in Homer, and South Toledo Bend near Anacoco. 

The news release emphasizes that visitors check individual parks' webpages for specific days and hours of operation, as pool schedules are subject to change.
