Ahmedabad: This season at the Indian Premier League, there have been many controversies. The umpiring standards have been questioned time and again, and Wednesday was no different as the third umpire gave Dinesh Karthik a reprieve. If you saw it with the naked eye it seemed like there was a deviation of the bat. But again, the UltraEdge showed a small spike first when Karthik’s bat hit the pad before the ball came.

And then there was a massive spike, which the third umpire interpreted as ball hitting the bat. There seemed to be a gap between bat and ball at one point and usually such spikes appear when ball hits the pad or body and the ones on the bat are smaller.

The RR dugout seemed unhappy as Kumar Sangakkara even walked up to the umpire and had a word. The incident took place in the 17th over of the game. Ravi Shastri, who was on the commentary said that he too was ‘shocked’ with the decision by the third umpire. Everyone was stunned as it was shown on the big screen at the venue.

Meanwhile, Karthik scored 11 off 13 balls. It seemed he could not find the middle of the bat. He would be hoping he gets another game. At the time of filing the copy, RCB were 155 for six in 18.3 overs. With nine more balls remaining, RCB would hope to get close to 175-180.
